+ Postpartum Concerns
Becoming a Mom is one of life’s greatest gifts, AND there are also moments that are hard as hell to navigate. You may have waited your life with anticipation for this journey, but sometimes women find that their new reality is far from what they were expecting. For some women, conception and pregnancy can be difficult, riddled with infertility, miscarriages, complications or just be plain uncomfortable. For others, the birth of their child and first year of life may cause anxiety, sadness, or even a grief reaction over the massive shift in identity.
New mamas often feel inadequate and scared by the feelings they encounter during this period, and worry that they are ungrateful, crazy or that something is wrong with them. Women feel SO much pressure to be the perfect mothers, perfect spouses, have their body ‘bounce back’ and balance ALL THE THINGS.
DURING THIS TIME WOMEN CAN FEEL VERY ALONE
I’m here to tell you that you are absolutely not alone and I’m here to help you take your first step towards feeling better today.
Being a new Mom is HARD, but I’ve got you Mama!
The pregnancy and postpartum period is an adjustment for all women, along with drastic changes in hormones, sleep deprivation, as well as the individual temperament of your baby, your ability to cope with these changes can leave you feeling lost, vulnerable and overwhelmed.
Throughout pregnancy and postpartum our bodies change drastically, which can make you feel like you aren’t yourself, and may cause body image and confidence issues. Many new mamas also struggle with having a traumatic birth experience and struggling with processing the birth of their baby.

Postpartum Depression vs
Baby Blues
It can be hard to know the difference between baby blues and Postpartum Depression (PPD), but both can have you feeling alone and extremely vulnerable. Baby blues typically begin within a few days after birth and start to wane within one to two weeks. While a mother may continue to experience periods of sadness or worry after that two week window, the feelings will be in proportion to her life circumstances of caring for a newborn.
Baby blues typically includes symptoms such as tearfulness, sadness, moodiness, irritability, trouble sleeping or eating, and feeling indecisive or overwhelmed. These feelings may be related to experiencing difficulty with breastfeeding, having a fussy or colicky baby, or lack of sleep. Baby blues can have you feeling on edge, intolerant and overwhelmed with simple everyday tasks and interactions. Baby blues symptoms typically do not prevent a mom from caring for herself or her baby. Things may certainly feel more challenging and the symptoms may be present every day, but daily functioning is maintained.
Postpartum Depression, however, carries more severe symptoms that may limit a mom’s ability to manage her and baby’s daily mental and physical health. PPD symptoms can include feeling low or down, struggling to bond with baby, changes in eating habits, difficulty sleeping or a need for more sleep (beyond what is expected with a baby), feelings of worthlessness, guilt, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, and even recurrent thoughts of death or suicide. Anxiety-based symptoms may also be present, such as feelings of overwhelm, constant worry and even panic attacks. At least some of these symptoms will be present on most days. If you are experiencing symptoms of Postpartum Depression after two weeks of giving birth, please don’t hesitate to reach out for help today. I’ve got you.
